Each of our Board Members brings a passion to Dream A World Education inspired by a unique story that connects them to our mission.  Creativity and compassion are a combination that mean something to Dr. Hughes.

Dr. Hughes grew up in the inner city of Cleveland Ohio and knows first- hand the incredible influence of music, dance and art on a child’s life. She’s shared stories with us about how as a child she felt at odds with her peers and her own self image. It was the arts that opened her world, offered a safe space where she felt valued, and provided a means to expand her creativity and self-expression. The arts were a pathway to understanding compassion…the compassion that would begin to express through her studies and career choices.

After graduating from Temple University School of Medicine Dr. Hughes completed an internship inSheila Hughes travel internal medicine at University of Maryland Medical Center. She spent the next 7 years in rural Mississippi in an area where there was a shortage of physicians.  Initially serving with the National Public Health Service Corp. Dr. Hughes then completed a Family Medicine Residency at The Medical Center in Columbus Georgia where she was named the Resident of the Year. While enjoying a busy family practice, she was a Board Member of the Columbus YMCA, on staff at 4 hospitals and Medical Director of a nursing facility. She created the Books for Summer program for the Susie B Anthony Elementary School in Phoenix City, Alabama. Since arriving in Los Angeles, Dr. Hughes has maintained a private practice devoted to Weight Management and Wellness. She has been a spokesperson for the Women In Need Foundation, supports Playground of Dreams and is a Board member of the Center for Spiritual Living – Los Angeles. Dr Hughes has the privilege of volunteering alongside her staff for Secrets of the Heart at several schools.Sheila and Chelsea

When Dr. Hughes is not in her office or busy volunteering, she’s an adventurer and loves traveling to places like Bali, and spending time with her daughter Chelsea, son Cameron, her husband Bennie and her amazing dad, Mr. Clifford Hughes, who’s still singing in his 90’s!

Dr. Hughes is a gift to us and we deeply appreciate her passion, dedication and generosity.
