Maya Angelou once said, “Be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.” What she meant by this is simple – do something for someone else! In Judaism, it’s called a mitzvah – a good deed. Jules and Diane Kabat have demonstrated the meaning of this phrase to Dream A World Education since 2011.
Jules Kabat joined our Advisory Board in 2012, and on his own, he has consistently supported us with his generosity. Diane Kabat, who began serving as a board member in 2011, and is now President of our board, says this: “I was first introduced to DAWE while volunteering at Selma Avenue Elementary School in Hollywood. When I met its founder Bunny Hull, learned about the mission of infusing values and important life skills into the arts, and then saw the Opening Performance, I was hooked.”
“I am so happy to be part of Dream A World Education, serving on the board, volunteering in the classroom, and most importantly, watching the organization grow as it instrumentally changes young lives. Over the past 5 years, I have driven to all areas of Los Angeles to volunteer – Hollywood, Hawthorne, El Segundo, Eagle Rock, Westchester, Downtown, Westlake, Koreatown, Culver City – and in gaining a knowledge of our city and its communities, I can see how essential our programs are for children and families – from Secrets of the Heart to Passport of the Heart, from One World Drum Circle to Dance in America.”
Being a part of funding our organization makes a difference in our ability to reach more schools and sustain and expand our teaching staff and infrastructure, but when someone does both, it is really a demonstration of our support, and we do not take it lightly.
“Why do I volunteer? I feel all children deserve exposure to the arts. And, if my time in the classroom helps to deliver the arts, influence young minds, count me in. The arts teach free expression, a new and different language of communicating, and I feel so fortunate to be able to watch it happen. I have consciously decided to use my retirement years by investing in the next generation and in the future of Los Angeles. I love Dream A World Education.”
We give our deepest thanks to Diane and Jules Kabat.
